Wow !!
How exciting to be able to communicate with you all by means of modern technology!!
Firstly the children have had an exciting week concentrating on mental maths (including multiplication/division by 4 and 8) - I would love the children to practice this at home over the weekend as we shall be continuing with both mental and written methods of division and multiplication over the following week.
In Literacy we have begun to look at Adventure and Mystery. The children have worked hard on character descriptions. I have asked the children if they could collect some 'clues' over the weekend about one of their characters that they are preparing to include in a story. These clues can be put into a special box (shoe box or big chocolate tin) and brought into class for Monday.
Finally, today we have learnt about the importance of the D-Day Landings and how we must all be mindful of significant historic events and the way they have impacted on modern society. The session culminated in a good old sing-song to "We'll Meet Again" and painting a flag to represent the Allied Countries.
Next week we shall continue with our Science topic (Forces), Maths and Literacy will continue as above and rehearsals shall be begin for our Summer Show.
Exciting times!

Megan
xxx
what are bus stops Megan? is it the same as chunking? lily
ReplyDeleteLily a bus stop is just a way of doing division without having to do the whole sum. Remember that you can do it ! Just think of a division sum and the draw the bus stop grid then put in the division numbers.See if you can do this sum
Delete63 divided by 3
Megan xx
for me its 21 and yes Megans right the bustop method is a easy way of doing dividing with 1 digit numbers. Oli
DeleteI so pleased that you are all enjoying maths this week - yes Megan it is important to have various strategies up your sleeve and they really help everyone to understand the calculations we are learning to to do.
ReplyDeleteLily in my day at primary school, a very long time ago, the only 'bus stops' were literally those where you caught the bus to go into town!! It just is another way of saying 'short written division'.
And girls you certainly do have Division for Maths homework this week!
Impressive knowledge and enthusiasm for maths here. I agree with Mrs. Smith we call the 'bus stop' method short division...it is always good to show you know the correct maths vocabulary. Who knows what product means in maths?
ReplyDeletedoes product mean divide?
ReplyDeleteMolly xxx
in my councalation yes or it means "im going to buy a product"

Hi girls - don't worry I'm going to allow you to finish them some time this week.
ReplyDeleteNow Wlil just have a look at your challenges - I think they may be a little difficult to work out over a hot, sunny weekend.. Could you perhaps challenge the children by thinking of some 3-digit numbers to divide by 1 digit and 2 digit numbers? I'm sure in this heat we would all cope a little better !!
I'm reading The Destroyer book online and I am really enjoying it
