Week 2: Subtraction, Conjunctions, Environmental Art and Respecting Religion

Our Number of the Day Thursday Challenge Board

Wonderful Writing using conjunctions

Excellent subtraction work, exchanging tens
Class 3 we have had a very busy yet (spot the conjunction?!) enjoyable week of learning.  I have been very impressed again this week with your writing and understanding of conjunctions.  Well done on your 'boxing up' of the story with Mrs. Ward in getting prepared to write your warm piece for our adventure stories linked to Rio.  Presentation is getting better again today and there was some super handwriting in early morning work practice this morning. Keep up the good work!
Many of us have found subtraction challenging but perseverance is shining through.  We will look at this more next week. Don't forget you must always work from that top digit down and exchange tens if you need to.  Remember-  83 is the same as 70+13 once we have exchanged.
Your Number of the Day work has been very impressive with more of you challenging yourselves to tackle the green / gold challenges, yeah!
I hope you enjoyed having the time in the IT suite looking at Active Learn and Bug Club today and having the time to choose some new books from the library and scanning out non-fiction.  Please remember to return your books by scanning back in (multi return) and putting back on the correct shelf.
Well done Evie-May, Daniel, Charlotte, Louie and Iris on being Bug Club Champions for this week!  Who will it be next week?   Enjoy the books and the maths and conjunction games and don't forget Mrs. Ward's home learning challenge due in on Monday with the new home learning books for Maths and Grammar too.
Thanks Class 3 for a great week, have a wonderful weekend.

  1. Mr Wainwright, when you ask for mental maths, does that mean using a pen and paper and working it out however best suits the individual or does it mean, no aids whatsoever and doing it in your head?! Gulp.

    1. Dear Mrs. Squire, if it can be solved in the head and just write the answer, go for it! Example- 2+2= 4 just write '4'. For a question like 12+9, someone might know +9 is +10 then -1, so they might jot down 22 (for 12+10) and then take off the 1 to write the final answer 21. The idea is: if can just write the answer, do. If you need a 'jotting', use it, if you need a paper method use it..
